Job Description: Essential Position Functions

Responsible for various grounds maintenance and repair functions relating to landscaping, operation of equipment and installation, and the repair and replacement of equipment at various District sites; develops and promotes good community relations among various community and school stakeholders.

  • Reports consistently for work as scheduled
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Attains proficient or higher evaluations on established Performance Standards
  • Keeps buildings and grounds, including sidewalks, driveways, athletic, and play areas neat and clean at all times
  • Maintains irrigation sprinkler systems and all associated components including valves, backflow preventers, and sprinkler heads/time clocks
  • Mows lawns and trims and edges around landscaping, builds, installs, and repairs fencing, retaining walls, and stairs, paints and marks all athletic fields, waters lawns, cleans out drainage ditches and or culverts, and checks and repairs playground equipment
  • Performs the operation and maintenance of machinery and equipment including power mowers, snow blowers, snow plows, parking lot sweeper, and weed trimmers, etc.
  • Shovels, plows, and/or sands roadways, fire lanes, parking lots, walks and steps as appropriate
Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
  • Knowledge of materials, equipment, and methods used in general grounds maintenance work
  • Knowledge of repair and operations of machinery and equipment
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively with a wide variety of people including trainees, coworkers, administrators, vendors, and the general public
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, written, listening, and verbal communication skills

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • Colorado Driver’s License or be eligible at time of application
  • Must meet pre-employment drug and alcohol testing requirements; subject to random drug and alcohol testing, including reasonable suspicion

Preferred Qualification:

CDL license

Additional Information:

New Applicants: Please note that if you are hired by District 20, fingerprinting is required. You will be responsible for the fingerprinting charge at the Colorado Springs Police Department as well as for the FBI charge.


All custodial positions require the ability to lift 50 pounds and to push/pull burdens up to 100 pounds.


All special education positions require the ability to safely lift 50 pounds each in a two person lift.
