Academy District 20 (ASD20), founded in 1957, serves more than 25,000 students in northern Colorado Springs. A growing district, ASD20 added approximately 7,000 students in the past 15 years, and anticipates adding 5,000 in the next 10 years. With more than 30 schools, including 19 elementary, five middle and five traditional high schools, plus several alternative, hybrid and online options, the district is considered, "The Peak of Excellence." Since 2010, the district has been Accredited with Distinction by the Colorado Department of Education and thanks to the overwhelming support of its constituency, ASD20 passed a $230 million bond measure in 2016. The bond funds are providing improvements to each school and are also being used to build two new elementary schools, one new middle school, a Center for Modern Learning and a permanent home for the School in the Woods.

Assists the Network Engineer with the maintenance and improvement of the local and wide area networks within the district, building wireless networks, including virtual server, firewall, web filter, storage area network, and windows server administration; works as a team member to pioneer new ways that technology can impact the instructional and business goals of the school district; covers the duties of other members of the Network Services Team as assigned.

- Assists the Network Engineer with Service Administration of the following: Virtual hosts and the virtual servers installed on those hosts; Windows Servers; Network Switches and Routers; Firewall related tasks including web filtering and reporting; Print Servers and associated queues; also includes, but not limited to Active Directory, DNS, OU, configuration, maintenance, GPOs, Security Monitoring, Account management, integration, etc.
- Applies new products to make computer use for the end-user as easy as possible
- Assists in the planning/upgrading of server and network hardware/software replacement, warranty and cost estimations
- Assists in the planning and upgrading of server and network hardware and software replacement, warranty and cost estimations
- Assists with the implementation of the data communications switches and software involved in district and site network functions
- Assists with the implementation of the centrally managed district wireless access system within each building to include security
- Assists with the oversight of the installation and configuration of district wide area network, local area networks, and wireless networks, including but not limited to servers, switches, routers, firewalls, wireless radios, and wireless access points
- Assists with the maintenance and patching of servers
- Ensures that network services and functions are available for all end users
- Monitors network security and user privileges for all district network functions
- Maintains a thorough documentation process of pertinent network designs, configurations and processes
- Maintains and modifies the wireless network both between and within buildings
- Maintains awareness of new hardware and software products
- Maintains network security through proper configuration of VPN and Firewalls
- Modifies the configurations to respond to changes in district bandwidth and security requirements
- Modifies the configurations of network infrastructure to respond to changes in district bandwidth and security requirements
- Monitors and troubleshoots data communications between the district and all outside service providers
- Monitors bandwidth usage and responds to increasing requirements by developing new configurations and recommending hardware replacement
- Participates in training activities to further knowledge
- Responds to Help Desk tickets related to but not limited to, network issues, systems management, printers/printing, and other system issues
- Serves as an effective team member of the Information Technology Department
- Sets up, maintains, and troubleshoot Windows software-based servers
- Stays current with changes in wireless and security advances to combat security threats
- Troubleshoots networking issues
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing

- Knowledge of and experience with the following: Operating Systems: Windows 7, 10, 2003, 2008, 2012 (R2), Linux, VMware Enterprise administration and HyperV; Network Protocols: Ethernet, Wireless (802.11a,b,g,n), TCP/IP, OSPF, 802.1q VLANS, DNS, DHCP, VoI; Network Security: Firewalls, VPNs, Wireless Security Protocols; Network Management: SNMP, SSH, Telnet, TFTP, FTP, LDAP, AD, Network Management Applications
- Knowledge of and experience with the latest and recent version of major operating systems including Microsoft, Apple, and Macintosh
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related experience
- 1 year of experience as a network administrator
- 1 year of experience as a Windows Systems Administrator
- 1 year of experience as a wireless networking engineer
- Experience evaluating, configuring, and troubleshooting a wide variety of datacom and telecom software and devices
- Experience in Ethernet-based network and Microsoft Windows System administration with a demonstrated knowledge of troubleshooting and problem solving in the same; including data backup and disaster recovery management
- Knowledge of HP ProCurve data switches
- Knowledge of PaloAlto Firewall Systems
- Knowledge of Aruba Wireless Access Points, Controllers, and ClearPass Network Access Control Systems
- Knowledge of ShoreTel VoIP telephony systems
The district offers a comprehensive compensation package. Placement is dependent upon experience at Staff Specialist Salary Level VI with a starting salary of $53,750. The district also offers medical benefits, life insurance, and salary benefit dollars if an individual chooses not to take the medical benefits plan.
