07/01/2022Transportation Supervisor assists the Director for Transportation in organizing, supervising and managing all facets of pupil transportation; provides on-site first line supervision of driving personnel, bus assistants and staff; routinely works with drivers, parents, and school officials in resolving transportation matters; provides daily planning, organization, administration and evaluation of transportation services to ensure maximum operational efficiencies; assists in all elements of efficient routing of the bus fleet and continually monitors routes for economy and safety; is responsible for all student management matters; supervises and evaluates Transportation Department staff as assigned. This is an exempt position where bus driving may be required.
Incumbent must meet pre-employment drug and alcohol testing requirements; subject to random drug and alcohol testing, including reasonable suspicion.

Actively participates in planning, organizing, administering, and evaluating the transportation services of the district
Assumes duties of other supervisors as directed
Assumes oversight and responsibilities for other departmental areas as needed
Attends professional meetings, seminars, and workshops
Carries out and enforces applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations
Communicates student matters with parents and school administrators
Complies with and enforces district administrative policies, Transportation Department practices, Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, Colorado Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) requirements, and all other applicable federal and state regulations and laws
Conducts route reviews, coordinates with school administrators as needed, meets with parents, teachers, and the general public, conducts briefings, and provides routine and special reports
Continually checks bus operations and bus route safety
Directly supervises and provides direction for all assigned staff
Directs work hours for assigned staff
Drives school bus on district routes as needed
Ensures that communications from parents, motorists, and school personnel are returned promptly and that follow up action is completed
Ensures Transportation staff work safely and observe applicable regulations at all times
Functions as Terminal Dispatcher as needed to meet the mission of the Transportation Department
Guides and oversees assigned areas including but not limited to dispatching, driver and paraprofessional hiring and training, general education routing, special needs routing, drug and alcohol testing and documentation, bus fee collection program, and small vehicle training
Inspects buses and other transportation vehicles
Maintains a flexible shift schedule
Maintains effective communications with schools, departments, and other district locations
Monitors department areas for cleanliness and safe working conditions
Monitors employee attendance and follows up as necessary
Organizes annual staff in-service, driver/paraprofessional bid processes, and other trainings
Participates in developing and administering initial routing plan and all required adjustments
Performs inclement weather response duties as required
Provides necessary data to maintain personnel records, payroll data, and files for all assigned staff
Regularly validates bus schedules and bus route efficiency
Responds to accidents and incidents
Responds to on-call responsibilities as needed
Reviews student management items and determines appropriate actions
Serves as designee for the Director for Transportation
Supervises, directs, and evaluates Transportation Department staff as assigned
Supports a cooperative relationship with appropriate law enforcement agencies
Verifies bus operators conduct complete daily vehicle inspections and they report all mechanical defects in a timely manner
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to communicate effectively in English verbally and in writing
Ability to create, access, input, retrieve, and manipulate information in various software systems
Ability to drive and operate a school bus safely
Ability to drive district vehicles in adverse weather or as needed to meet department requirements
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals from many diverse backgrounds and professions including supervisors, administrators, coworkers, staff, students, parents, other agencies, departments, and the general public
Ability to follow oral and written instructions
Ability to greet and interact with the public in a courteous and professional manner

Technical computer expertise necessary; must have or be able to obtain a thorough knowledge of the automated routing system, and other related transportation systems
Thorough knowledge of school bus transportation and fleet operations
Thorough knowledge of transportation and related safety regulations
Visual acuity enabling safe operation of items required for the position

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's (Baccalaureate) degree (e.g., B.A., A.B., B.S.)
5+ Years Leadership and Supervisory Experience in the Maintenance / Transportation Sector
Commercial Drivers License (CDL) -Class B - Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT)
